Vela International Marine Ltd.’s Almizan Star, the fourth of six very large crude carriers ordered from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, entered service Wednesday after a naming ceremony at the South Korean shipyard.

Khalid A. Al-Falih, Saudi Aramco’s executive vice president of Operations, presided over the ceremony attended by more than 50 guests, including Daewoo Shipbuilding president and CEO Sang Tae Nam, S-Oil CEO Ahmed Al-Subaey and Saud A. Bukhari, manager of Vela’s Technical and Support Department. The new vessel is built to the latest shipbuilding rules and regulations and to Vela’s standards of safety, reliability and the environment to ensure the reliable transportation of Saudi Aramco’s crude oil to its customers. Al-Falih also visited the Janah Star, the fifth vessel under construction. He toured the vessel in the shipbuilding dry dock, and received an overview from Vela’s team on the vessel’s construction and quality control.
